What Causes Elevated AST Level 44 While On Prednisone?

HI there. I am a SLE patient, and various Drs have stated the same. However , my current Rheumetologist says no. I had a liver biopsy and said it was induced by my Lupus. She shruggedit off. My enzymes for my liver are up but, she s not concerned. Alk is 158 and AST is 44. I ve been off of prednisone and hydroxychlororquinine for some time.. any thoughts I am also having alot of belly pain.

Hello,

SLE itself can cause hepatic dysfunction as a part of disease itself and it can also be due to drugs as well. I suggest you to stick to your doctor's advice and let me know if I can help you further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sameen Bin Naeem, General & Family Physician
