What Causes Elevated CRP Levels?

I have had three knee replacements in my right knee plus right hip replacement over the past 7 years, constant pain still and after increased pain and chills had blood work done, my c relative protein was 5.4, have been placed on 20mg a day of prednisone but no real improvement in pain, also taking 10 mg Norco every four hours. My question is how can I get to the bottom of the cause of my pain and what caused my CRP increase.

Hi,

Noted your history of 3 knee replacements in right knee and right hip replacement in past 7 years, constant pain, chills, C-reactive protein was 5.4, have been advised 20 mg Prednisone but no improvement.
Taking 10 mg of Norco every 4 hours. Wants to go to the bottom cause of pain and to know what increase C-reactive protein.
With the history of so many surgeries there is a lot of tissue trauma which cause inflammation, pain and many other symptoms, these increase C-reactive protein.
Since you are already taking so much of analgesics and now on steroids you should felt better.
I would advise you the following:
Take an opinion of another Orthopedic Surgeon or consult a Pain clinic to get proper clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like MRI if hte transplanted material allows and if not then CT scan of the affected areas to see for any persistent inflammation.
Entrapped nerves also can cause constant pain and has to be considered as a cause which needs different medication.
As per the cause found the treatment may be added or initiated to get you the relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
