What Causes Elevated ESR Levels Post Pneumonia Treatment?
Hello am a girl aged 19 a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with pneumonia after the treatment phase I got better a week later decided to go have my chest checked. the doctors requested another xray and full blood count everything turned out fine but the esr was at 47mm\hr the doctor suggested I go on tb treatment but I knew they was no tb cause my sputum was negative i feel just fine except a light cough once in a while I decided to go to a different hospital and was advised not to take the tb treatment drugs but my esr is not at 51 what could be the problem?? Is Is it normal to have such a high esr cause the tests don't indicate any infection and am worried...
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a non-specific marker of inflammation. Even if you are not currently infected, you could still have some inflammation due to prior pneumonia. I would not worry about the ESR, just see the doctor again if you begin to feel sick in any way.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
