Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have high ggt since dec 2015 about 560 then they have ultra sound but my liver is normal only they giving me a liv 52 tablet, also they refer mo to gastro doctor the tell the same. I already stop smoking and alcohol since i notice that my ggt is high. can you give same advice... thanks
GGT is generally high in disease of the liver and the bile routes. It is generally difficult to determine the importance of increased GGT without the results of the other liver tests like ATL, AST, bilirubin, Alkaline Phosphatase, etc. The normal liver in ultrasound does not rule out problems with liver. Other liver enzymes need to be checked as well. Using alcohol is a possible cause of the increased GGT and follow up of the GGT with time after quitting alcohol is important so i would advise you to follow up GGT in time.
I would recommend you to talk with your doctor if you have had other tests for liver function other then GGT and ultrasound and how the results have been and interpret GGT in the light of the other test results as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
