Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevated HCG Level Along With Low Progesterone Level?
My hcg numbers went from 23 to 107 in 48 hours, but my progesterone went from 0.7 to 0.8. I know that progesterone should be above 12-15. Why is the hcg continuing to rise when the progesterone is not supporting the pregnancy? When would we expect hcg to go back down? Could this be ectopic?
Hi. During pregnancy, hormone levels change. In the case of progesterone, levels begin to change as soon as you ovulate. After ovulation, the remnant of the follicle that contained the egg, called the corpus luteum, produces progesterone. When you're pregnant, progesterone maintains the uterine lining so the growing embryo can implant and grow. Progesterone also causes some, but not all, of the symptoms of pregnancy; estrogen and human chorionic gonadotropin also cause symptoms. Even if your progesterone level is lower than normal, you may still have some of the symptoms of pregnancy. Thank you.
