What Causes Elevated INR While Suffering From Chronic DVT?

I have been diagnosed with Chronic DVT for 6 years now since my hip replacement. Only about 60% of all this time has my INR been within the safe level of 2.0 to 3.0. The rest of thetime my inr can jump from 1.2 to as high as 6.0 within a weeks time. I am on Coumadin but still am throwing clots. Please tell me what could be causing this and what could help me besides increasing and decreasing my Coumadin? I am 68 years old and am nervous that I cant control this and have clots.

since you have 2 readings within week with large variability while you are on same dose of coumadin its most likely due to lab errors
my advice first is to repeat inr test
then if high should check your food (especially green food)which may elevate inr
then you may decrease coumadine dose according to your inr readings
