General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

PSA is produced by the prostate. It's an important screening test for prostate cancer where it is elevated. Howe'ver it is not very specific for prostate cancer. Other common benign condition like an infection of the prostate, increasing age, BPH, or can also cause raised level. So it should be interpreted with clinical context. However, very raised levels should be taken seriously to rule out prostate cancer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
