Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What could cause a significant increase in red blood cells, above the norm that is? Also neuropathy has developed in feet and less so in the hands. My blood sugar level is normal; my blood work has always been normal, until my last 2 tests. Red blood cells still elevated, after the 1st test, 10 days to 2 weeks earlier. I don t usually drink enough water; I usually forget to drink the water from any glass I pour.
Dehydration is one of the important cause of falsely elevated RBC levels. The other conditions which raise the RBC count are often slowly progressive and unlikely to be a cause in your case (as per available information).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ashok Kumar, Psychiatrist
