Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read yor message.
I think I can help you.

The information given in your message is quite suggestive of a sepsis induced delirium. A high TLC count means that she is undergoing some infection. The site and the source of the sepsis cannot be commented upon from the information provided in the message. However, in a 80 year lady, the most common cause is urine infection. I therefore suggest testing urine routine and culture along with blood culture.

Again, from the query I am unaware what medication has been given to her, but considering that the TLC has reduced because of this, it seems to be a antibiotic. I would suggest continuing the antibiotic till you can officially meet a doctor there.

The memory issue and the delirium is because of infection. In the elderly, it is very common for the patients to develop delirium in infection. I expect that it will improve once the sepsis settles and the infection is controlled. Of course, the TLC will improve as well if the TLC returns to normal.

Meanwhile, get the cultures. It is always better to start antibiotics as per the urine and blood culture.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to contact me for any further information related to the query.
Best of luck,
Dr Mittal
