Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My Tsh came 4.610 and my dr prescribed a low dose for thyroid is it really necessary to start the medication or wait and do another test and then start the medication? Specially 6 months ago my Tsh was 2.2 I don t know why it went up this month pls advice Tku
A upper limit of normal TSH is around 4 milli IU/litre. But it may differ from one laboratory to another. But yes the TSH value is slightly on higher side. I would suggest my patient to take low dose thyroid if they have symptoms of hypothyroidism like increased fatiguability, weakness and increase in sleep quantity. Even if the symptoms are absent, low dose thyroid can be initiated and TSH levels be kept below 4. If symptoms are absent, we can try for an observation period for few weeks. Hope the above information helps you to make informed decision. Thanks.
