What Causes Elevated TSH Levels After A Thyroid Lobectomy?
i had my left lobe thyroidectomy done in march 20th 2017. Before surgery My TSH level was only 0.78 after surgery it came up 4.8 then rechcked after 0ne month TSH gone up to 5.6.. why what is the reason for increasing TSH level within months. I am not on any meds (thyroxine) (biopsy result was incidental pappilary microcarcinoma)
Any surgery involving a glagnd decreases the mass and function of the gland..In your case left lobe has been removed causing less amount of thyroid tissue.. Lesser the tissue lesser would be the amount of thyroxine secreted Now our thyroid gland by secreting Thyroxine has a negative feed back in pituitary to secrete TSH meaning a lesser amount of thyroxine post surgery will have lesser negative feedback on pituitary leading to increase in levels of TSH
