Hello Doctor Good Evening . I m a kidney patient with a transplant done before 21/2 years ago . Recently both my wbc and polymorphs count in the blood are almost double . What could be the reasons ? Could the transplant kidney be affected by this ? Kindly answer Doc
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Please specify if you have had a recent infection which could have been the reason for the high WBC count. The other reasons could be immunosuppression due to the drugs you might have taken after the kidney transplant to fight rejection.
In any case go for a detailed CBC count and a check for any atypical cells in the circulation or bone marrow. Recheck your medication. Rule out any other underlying disease like rheumatoid arthritis or tuberculosis, etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Sanskriti Jawa
