What Causes Elevated WBC Count After Tooth Extraction?
Hello , I had a tooth pulled about a year ago the hole has yet to close I’ve recently been having a drainage from the hole sometimes clear but others it’s a yellowish color. I went to dr for routine blood work & my white blood count came back high 22.5 . Now they’re telling me I need to see a oncologist and I’m scared to death . Is it possible the hole in my mouth could cause white blood count to elevate that high? Thank you for your time
As per your query, you have symptoms of elevated WBC count after tooth extraction which does not seems to be related to tooth extraction. It could be due to some viral infection and sometimes could be due to improper healing of socket.
Hole in mouth after tooth extraction is normal. Maintain complete hygiene and do betadine gargles. If there is pain and any pus drainage, you should visit dentist once and get it examined and start treatment accordingly.
Get an x-ray of that particular tooth region done and get CBC done as well. Take proper course of antibiotics along with anti-inflammatory medication to subside infection.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
