What Causes Elevated WBC Levels In An Adolescent?

NIECE HAD BEEN REALSICK WITH FEVER FOR DAYS. SHE IS VERY SLENDOR AND IS IN HER FIRST YR OF COLLEGE BUT DOCTOR ADVISED HER THAT HER WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT IS VERY HIGH. SHE BASICALLY HAS BEEN VERY HEALTHY. DO WE NEED TO UNDULY WORRY AT THIS POINT. THANKS. KATHY

WBCs count do increases in setting of any infection but there are other causes too. What is the value of WBC count?
If it secondary to infection then no need to worry about but it also increases in leukemia too.
