Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I recently had a blood test and I am showing a slight elevation in Alkaline Phosphatase - normal is 41 - 151 and my reading is 158. The week before I had the blood test I was taking 800milligrams of Advil - once a day for 4 days - for my bad knees, could that make that reading high? I have never had this before.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Elevated Alkaline phosphatase levels can be due to bone disease but more commonly due to liver disorders. It could be a side effect of Ibuprofen(Advil) that you have been taking. Looks like you have taken more than the required amount your body could metabolize. Your liver is affected (inflamed)due to it & so the rise in your alkaline phosphatase level. Visit ER, get LFT (Liver function tests ), CBC & urine tests done. Take Liver tonics, oily-fried, eat boiled healthy food & fresh veggies & sugarcane juice. Stop all addictions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
