What Causes Elevated Antigen Levels While Suffering From Epstein Barr Virus?

I have a friend who was diagnosed with Epstein Barr in mid Nov. He has been getting blood tests every other week. He says his blood antigen is suppose to be around 49 but this last time it was 499 !! He is seeing an infectious disease doctor this week. What would be causing his count to go so high? Didn t know there was a cost to this.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

During the acute phase do EBV (Ebstein Barr Virus) infection there is rapid rise of antigens and is a normal response and nothing to worry in it. It will revert to normal in couple of weeks. Nothing to worry in it. As of now take bed rest and drink plenty of water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
