What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels After A Cataract Surgery?
I had cataract surgery this week. Before the surgery, my BP started to climb. I had no symptoms, but it went up to 243/113. Pulse was 86. This was after being given 4 mg Versed and 30 mg of Esmalol. Could it be an allergic reaction to one of the meds? .

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for the query. I understand your concern. The Versed is a sedative ... given to reduce preoperative tension & increase in blood pressure. It does not have any effect resulting in high blood pressure. Esmalol was given( preoperative) for temporary lowering of blood pressure thus facilitating smooth cataract surgery. This also does not cause high blood pressure. So, now the blood pressure you have not being allergy or side effect of above drugs- you need a physician's advise for evaluation of problem followed by specific medication & life style changes . Thanks
