What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar Level?

Over the last few years my glucose number in my blood panel went from 96 to 112, to 116. My doctor was not concerned but I am seeking your advise. Is this pre diabetic? I walk 3-5 miles per day and am trying to limit refined sugars and lowering carbs, Eliminated bread from diet.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Fasting blood sugar between 110-125 mg/dl suggestive of prediabets. Do not worry too much. But I would suggest you to go for HbA1c and glucose tolerance test to confirm further status of the diabetes. HbA1c will tell about blood glucose control of past 3 months. You do not require any medicine at this time.

Continue walking and exercising. Take small frequent meal rather than large meal. Take healthy diet with lots of green leafy vegetables.

Hope this may help you. Contact further if follow up needed.

Best regards,
Dr. Sagar
