What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar Levels Despite Taking Januvia And Novalog Insulin?
I have had blood sugar reading of 225 to 328 for the past week. I have been watching what I eat. Most days I only eat a light breakfast and a light dinner. I am taking Januvia twice a day. I do have a Novalog insulin pen and a slicing scale to follow for high blood sugars. I have been using the pen and my sugar will drop a little but still in the 225 to 275 range. I have a Dr. appt. in 2 weeks, should I wait or call and see if I should come in sooner? I do feel really tired & sleepy all the time.
Hello, Diabetes is a complex disease and there are periods when blood sugar control becomes difficult. This is attributed to exhaustion of beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin, or to increased insulin resistance. You forgot to mention the blood sugars level you provided are while fasting or random. In case they are fasting, I would advise you to see your doctor as soon as possible, otherwise it would be advisable to increase your insulin by 2 units and cautiously monitor your blood sugar levels. Besides this I usually advise my patients to drink lots of fluids and stay hydrated and to exercise. Even a brisk walk of 15 to 20 minutes can help lower your blood sugar levels a lot. Regards.
