What Causes Elevated Blood Sugar Levels?

I had a Doctors appointment this morning and they just called and said that my blood test came back with a gluclose reading of 360. I am going back in Monday morning but I'm concerned I may have diabetes. I lost about 25 pounds over the last year and have stopped drinking all drinks with high sugar. Is there anything else other than diabetes that would give such a high reading. I am not overweight at all but probably can be more active. If it is diabetes can it be managed without insulin shots or medication?

Thanks for contacting with your health concern

1. since there is positive history of weight loss and high blood sugar [ hypergycemia] thus apart from diabetes one should also exclude other causes like:
. lack of exercise, undue stress [infection/illness/surgery], not producing enough insulin, hyperthyroidism and steroids can cause increased level of blood sugar

2. It is wise to check again with fasting blood sugar and post prandial blood sugar with urinalysis [sugar/ketone in urine] since ongoing or frequent high blood sugar can damage your nerves [neuropathy], heart disease [ diabetic cardiomyopathy], kidneys [nephropathy], eyes [retinopathy] to name a few

3. To confirm whether it could be due to diabetes or some other factors kindly consult an Endocrinologist for further necessary management and consult a dietitian to change the amount and type of food you eat.
