What Causes Elevated Body Temperature While Having Multiple Sclerosis?
I have Multiple Sclerosis and became quite overheated at the beginning of July and have not felt right since. Some days pretty good - some days very tired and feeling almost like on edge of getting flu. Sometimes feel warm, but don t have temp - some days feel achey - some days feel bit loopy (lightheaded). Have been tested for Lyme and it is negative. This may be a MS exacerbation. I also have had a tooth pulled and it has crossed my mind that perhaps some infection could have gotten in blood stream, but that has now been a couple months ago. Don t know if I am impatient. Patients with a history of Multiple sclerosis are very sensitive to the extremes of temperature because heat causes nerves to conduct electrical signals poorly.
The lesion in the part of the brain caused by MS may cause disturbance/damage to the center that controls the temperature of the body.
To stay comfortable avoid hot showers, heated swimming pools, avoid exercises on hot humid days & use air conditioning. Get treated for MS at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
