Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am a 48 year old woman who works out regularly(resistance training, various cardiovascular work, crossfit, etc). My resting heart rate is around 60 bpm. Running is so difficult for me as I always feel as though I am lagging behind as my heart rate can raise to 160 bpm. I have been active all of my life(personal trainer as well). The elevated heart rate concerns me(obviously shortness of breath as well) along with the next issue...I sometimes will be doing sled pushes or pulls. Both quads die quickly as if there is not enough oxygen or proper blood flow. Any input would be appreciated.
Hello and welcome Since you are physically active so at your age if you exercise capacity reduces than I would advise you for Baseline investigation like checking of blood pressure, blood investigation like hemoglobin, CBC, blood sugar testing.
Shortness of breath is expected during workout however if you fell you are getting it early and exercise tolerance has reduced than you should visit your doctor for physical examination and Baseline investigation to rule out underlying heart or Lung disease or any metabolic disorders.
Please write back to me with your weight, BMI and relevant medical history if you need any more assistance, I will be happy to help you. Best wishes
