What Causes Elevated Heart Rate While Suffering From Panic Attack?

Hello I am 36 yr old male 5 6 about 300 lbs. Yesterday I ended in the hospital due to elevated heart rate it was averaging 125-129 bps. They did 2 ecg test and ran blood work twice. The ecg showed normal readings except for the high heart rate and the blood work was normal. The ER Doctor stated that it seemed to him that a had a pretty bad panic attack maybe due to dehydration and the meds I am currently on. Current meds are Omeprazole 40 mg, metformin 500 mg 1/day, fenofibrate 54mg, lisinipril 5mg, Cipro 500 mg, Flagyl 500 mg, Levsin, Flonase, Tylenol 3. Currently suffering from diverticulitis, gerd, and cracked molar. Do you think it was simply a panic attack? This is the 2nd time in a row typically occurring at night with sweats difficulty swallowing and labored breathing along with the high heart rate. I have had panic attacks in the past these seem much more severe. Should I be worried?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think this situation is not simply related to the medications you are taking. None of them can typically cause this tachycardia. Since heart problems are excluded from EKG probably you may be suffering from hyperthyroidism.
You may need to check your thyroid hormone levels T3 and T4 and TSH.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
