Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My A1C just too a drastic jump in the past six months to 10.9 from 7.9. My doctor would like to put me on Invocana or Farxiga and I am not liking all of the bad side effects from bladder cancer to uti and yeast infections. I actually am not reading many positive comments on them. There are other drugs that sound better such as Glipizide or Glimepiride. I exercise, watch my diet and I'm constantly reading labels. My body is not cooperating and I would like help on picking a secondary drug. I am presently on Metformin 850mg twice daily. That originally started at 500 mg, to 1000 mg, to 1500 mg to present 1700 mg.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Hemoglobin A1c or Glycated hemoglobin is a long term marker of a patient's glucose control over a period of 120 days. hemoglobin A1c level of 10.9 indicate very poor control of blood glucose.
As you are taking Metformin 850mg twice daily, you should take glimepride 1mg along with metformin 500 mg twice daily. If your blood glucose level( Hb 1Ac) are still high you can take Invocana or Farxiga as well.
Hoping your query is solved
