What Causes Elevated Level Of ASL In An Alcohol Addict?

My ASL is 167. I am going for an ultrasound Wednesday and will see my doctor on Friday. I am in a state of panic. I am male, 62 with a history of alcohol abuse. I still drink -- more than I should but much less than I did ten years ago. If I drank a higher than average quantity of alcohol for two days before the blood work was performed, could this be the reason for the high level indicated? Also, assuming (hopefully) I don t have cancer, if I stopped drinking alcohol 100%, could the level go back to a normal range? James YYYY@YYYY

I think it is AST not ASL. Yes alcohol raises it and it is unlikely cancer and should come to normal once alcohol is stored.
