What Causes Elevated Levels Of Liver Enzymes?

I had blood work done for an insurance wellness exam. My liver enzymes were elevated, I believe 122 and 166. They were normal in March of this year. I have not taken acetaminophen, I do not drink alcohol very often, and even then 1 drink. Bili levels were normal. Any thoughts? I am to have LFT repeated in 1 month.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Elevated liver enzymes with normal bilirubin levels could be caused due to following reasons:
1. Alcoholic liver disease due to toxic effects of alcohol.
2. Drug induced hepatocellular damage.
3. Stagnation to the outflow of bile due to gall stone disease.
Since you are stating that you take limited quantities of alcohol and there is no history of taking hepatotoxic drugs, it might be caused due to presence of gall stones.
Kindly get an ultrasound abdomen done to know the status of liver and gall bladder. Please consult Physician with the report for appropriate evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
