What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes While Suffering From Ulcerative Colitis?

I recently had an annual physical and bloodwork done. For at least the second time in 6 months, my liver enzymes have been high. I have ulcerative colitis and take azathioprine, zoloft, losartan and lovastatin. I have developed a sharp pain in my lower right side, comes and goes, not consistent. I was advised to stop the lovastatin and repeat my blood work in 10 days. I did not advise of the abdominal pain (didn t seem serious at the time, but has become more prevalent).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to a side effect of Lovastatin drug. Stop using Lovastatin and repeat the examination to confirm if this is the cause of elevated enzymes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
