What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes?

I am 48 yrs old,nonsmoking ,social drinker, non diabetic, with BMI 28,no medication,and I have sgot 54,sgpt 82,and ggt122.Always I had slightly elevated these enzymes from 15 yrs but the last three yrs is more but stable.I have normal abdominal u/s.what you recommend to me?thank you

Hello,

What is your gender? The level of liver enzyme is different between female and male. SGOT , SGPT, GGT test they help to determine how well the liver is functioning. Too much of these enzymes can indicate a problem, such as liver damage.

Do you have any viral infection? Or taking any medicine?

Your liver enzymes test are elevated, It can because of liver damage due to excessive alcohol consumption and overweight. Over weight can make fatty liver that can cause liver damage and long term develop to cirrhosis the same as drinking alcohol. According to your history.

You can prevention from liver cirrhosis by avoiding alcohol and avoid fat food. Fish oil and Olive oil are good for you. You should exercise regularly to decrease fat accumulation in your liver and your body.

You should go to follow up with your doctor to check your Liver Enzyme Test and ultrasound.
