What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes?

Hi Doctor, Imhave a blood chem. result last week and the abnormal results are SGOT/AST - 37.30, the reference value is 0-35 U/L and SGPT/ALT - 91.40, the reference value is 0-45 U/L. Am I have any liver disorder or illness? What causes this to high? Im not an alchoholic. Do I have Hepa/Jaundice?

According to history provided your SG OT is normal and your SGPT is elevated, so you are right, underlying liver causes should be ruled out and for that you can investigate with USG abdomen scan first and then if needed viral marker can be investigated.

Sometimes viral infection temporarily can lead to elevation of SGPT level so clinical correlation is needed in your case and also check your cholesterol level as well.

You can provide these reports for giving further comment and to guide you further for the proper management.
