Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My liver enzymes are elevated, my ALP is almost 9 times the normal, I ve had scans and have no permanent damage. I ve now abstained from alcohol and paracetamol, just wondering if you could please give me a rough estimate of how long it will take to return to normal?
This was due to consumption of alcohol and paracetamol as you are saying. Alcohol causes cirrhosis in the liver and as such enzymes are raised in the blood which indicates that everything is not ok with body especially liver.
Though there is no permanent damage in the liver as you say therefore no need to worry, enzymes will take some time to return back but condition you don't drink back or suffer from any other infection.
It is better if you can once report to emergency room.you may not a physical examination to find the status of the liver.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Soheel Hussain Zargar,
