Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My father has liver enzymes at 3000. He has had jaundice now for over 2 weeks and he is vomiting and lost 30 pounds. Doctors ruled out heptitis and stones. At this point with his liver enzymes really high is his liver damaged and if so how long should he wait for diagnosis? I don t want him to have a liver failure or worse cancer!
That is not a normal level and you have every right to be concerned. I would have them check his pancreas, as pancreatic masses can compress the the common bile duct and cause liver enzymes to be elevated. He should have a CT scan with pancreatic protocol. An ERCP with endoscopic ultrasound would also help here, however this is a specialized test and many centers are not equipped to do this. Weight loss and jaundice is very suspicious for pancreatic cancer.
