What Causes Elevated Potassium Levels?

I have just been diagnosed with a high level of potassium. The medicine (prescription) that I have been given costs over $100 for a 10 day supply. What is the cheapest but effective medicine that I can be on? I will restrict my diet to exclude bananas, nuts, beans, milk, beef, potatoes, apricots and cod which should help reduce my level. Appreciate any help you can give me relative to price. Thanks, Paul Etienne at YYYY@YYYY or 208-500-1688

Hello,

High levels of potassium are hyperkalemia. And it has so many causes including kidney failure, hormonal imbalance or any other medications. Complete body check-up needed to find out the cause for elevated levels of potassium, then only treatment and diet plan can be set up. Management depends upon the cause. My suggestion, please consult a general physician, and go for routine tests like kidney function tests glucose levels etcetera.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Siddartha
