Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello there, Had a few labs done and my prolactin levels were high (supposed to be 23 and were 36. I am a 37 year old female taking adderall 20 mg 3x/day or as needed, klonazapam 1mg 3x/day as needed and tramadol 500mg? 5x/day as needed. I have many symptoms including rapid fast onset weight gain and unable to lose while dieting, extreme hair loss, irregular menses, extreme non-regulating of body temperature and skin abscess/cysts/scars for many years. Could this be pituitary tumor related?
Your prolactin levels are not high enough to be suggestive of pituitary tumor. The symptoms you are experiencing are likely to be due to decreased thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism).
Hypothyroidism can cause elevated prolactin levels too. TSH, free t3, and t4 analysis are required at this point. Once confirmed, hypothyroidism is treated with thyroid hormone supplementation. Correcting hypothyroidism will normalize prolactin levels also.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
