Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 26 years old. I have had a resting heart rate of 99-115 for 3 years now. I was even turned down when I went to donate blood. I have taken action to quit smoking and work on my health but still, the fast heart rate at rest continues. Should I be concerned?
Continuous fast heart rate is a matter of concern. It warrants detailed evaluation to find out underlying cause which could be related to heart disease, thyroid disorder, electrolytes imbalance or it's a benign condition. I would advise you for a battery of investigation like ECG, thyroid function test, complete blood count and liver and kidney function test and serum electrolytes as well.
Meanwhile avoid smoking and drinking, try relaxation exercises, yoga and meditation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. BR Hudda
