Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevated Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Levels?
I have an increase in term brTest results show an increase in the Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone from 2.24 in May 2015 to 8.84 in September 2015. What is causing this, what does this increase mean and can it be treated?
Thank you for asking. It means either your thyroid is not working well and this hormone increases to push it work more and you need to do T3,T4 tests to asses thyroid function. Or means you have some central problem causing it to be released regardless of how functional your thyroid is. Thyroid hormonal tests, thyroid scan are needed, plus more history and physical examination is needed. Like did you notice any weight gain? hair loss? skin changes? Please refer to an endocrinologist for further evaluation and proper physical examination and treatment. Hope this helped.
