What Causes Elevated Triglyceride Levels?

Hello, I have a non-fasting total cholesterol level 0f 230, with HDL of 43, LDL of 111, and a triglyceride level of 382. Should I be worried? My HDL and LDL levels are within range, by my triglycerides are very high. I was tested about 3 hours after a large meal.

Hi,
I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood. Extra callories in our body are stored in the for of triglycerides.
According to your reports your cholesterol and triglyceride levels are high, but it doesn't seem to much worry. You have done the blood test just 3 hours after large meal, that's why result might be high. Ideally you should fast for 6-8 hours, better if fast for 12 hours, also you should not drink alcohol at least 24 hours prior to test. If you are taking birth control pills or fish oil then also result may vary.
So I would sugest you repeat the test taking all the necessary precautios. If the repeat test also shows high triglycerides then you will require treatment to control it, also you will have to modify your eating habits and you have to exercise regularly.
I would also suggest you also check for bllod sugar levels along with it, as high sugars and triglycerides move hand in hand most of the time.
