Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevated Troponin T Levels In The Blood?
Hi I recently competed in a bodybuilding competiton. A week following the competiton my bloods showed an increased CKMB level and increased troponin T levels. I took the bloods after a training session in the gym. Are these levels expected or is there an underlying problem to worry about?
Bodybuilding can result in muscle hypertrophy and protein breakdown as a result of exercise induced muscle damage. This can result in total creatine kinase (CPK) levels and troponin. The levels arising out of muscle tissue. However, to rule out abnormalities in cardiac muscle activity, kindly get an electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram done and consult cardiologist for clinical evaluation and advice.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ashakiran S
