What Causes Elevation In Blood Sugar Levels Post Iron Infusion?

After an iron infusion, my blood sugar spiked up to over 400. Taking Metromin twice a day 2 500 each time. I get the level down some, then it goes back up. i am due another infusion, but now I am afraid. I have never had the BS to go that high in the past. stayed around 100 to 140.

Hello
I understand your blood sugar increased to 400 after a recent iron infusion. The mixture must of contained glucose. Check with the infusion center for all the ingredients in your last infusion.
I assume you had not eaten a high carbohydrate meal around the time of the infusion, as this will also make the blood sugar increase.
Another cause of a high blood sugar is an underlying infection.
Clues to what happened will include how long after the infusion did the sugar increase and how long did it remain elevated.
