What Causes Elevation In The AST And ALT Enzymes While On NovoLog And Invokana?
I just got my AST & ALT numbers and they are way high! AST is 89, ALT is 258. I ve had issues with high liver enzymes for a few years now, but in Jan 2016 they were much better. AST was 24 & ALT was 85. I take many types of supplements but couldn t find any reference to them causing this. I am diabetic and am on Novolog 70/30 10 units am & 10 units pm, I also take Invokana, Trulicity and severl BP meds. Had an MRI of the liver last year that showed no issues. I m very concerned with these latest results.
SGOT and SGPT are sensitive indicators of liver damage or injury from different types of diseases or conditions, and collectively they are termed liver tests or liver blood tests.
So the next step is to look for certain liver damage and the most common cause is fatty liver disease.
It should be confirmed by ultrasound. Other causes are viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, medications, alcohol intake or autoimmune diseases.
To verify the exact cause, US, bilirubin levels and tumor markers should be additionally done Then appropriate treatment can be started.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
