What Causes Elevation Of BP Levels After Child Birth?

Hi Dr. My wife gave birth a second time by cs and the baby is 6 months and 3 weeks. My wife is not an HP but her BP after birth is always very high. She just returned from the post natal with a higher BP of 170/101. What is happening to her and what should we do....she has no signs of pains.

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,
It appears as though your wife has a tendency to have recurrent hypertension during pregnancy and this may have led to the current hypertension, which can be classed now as 'chronic hypertension'. She will need anti-hypertensive treatment for some time and monitored further to see if she needs life-long treatment. Also, some lifestyle adjustments should be made to give her adequate rest, relief from stress, diet with less salt, fresh fruits, vegetables, less oil and good sleep. Hope you find this information useful. Take care.

OBGYN Dr. Purushottam Neurgaonkar's  Response
Dr. Purushottam welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully gone through your case, and I think I have understood your concern. I will try to address your medical concerns and would suggest you the best of the available treatment options.
It is not clear if her BP was raised during delivery. If it was not high during delivery, it can be essential hypertension for her now.
Just see to it if she has right height and weight proportion- BMI - body mass index between 18-23. adopt right diet and exercise schedule. Also she needs to have abdomen-pelvic sonography, blood tests like lipid profile, renal function tests and please consult physician and start anti-hypertensive medicines, at the earliest.
I hope my answer helps you.
Thanks.
