What Causes Elevation Of Liver Enzymes?

I have a history of elevated liver counts when on meds, over the counter, etc. I have been on crestor for a couple of years and all good. Switched to Lipitor (insurance purposes) last May. Summer dr visits were fine. Today my counts are approx 4 times higher than normal. I have been told to stop cholesterol med and vitamins. I just don t understand why it would take over 7 months for me to have been affected by the new med. Can it take this long? I also have some type of tooth/gum issue going on so I wonder if that is a reason too.
