What Causes Enlarged Heart While Suffering From Bronchial Pneumonia?

Myhusband is 67 years old, has developed bronchial pneumonia and the x-ray showed a 10 centermetre enlargment of his heart. He has been on augmenton for three days, is having a lot of trouble breathing, do i need to worry over his heart problem ? The doctor says the heart will return to normal asinfection subsides. He (and I ) arenot sleeping Harvey because he is very short of breath and occassionally stops breathing so I m staying awake to poke him into breathing again, a weekof this now and were both exhausted !

I think that is unlikely. Strain on the heart causes enlargement. This is about as likely to be fast and reversible as suddenly looking like Arnold Schwartzenegger (big muscles). It is likely to improve. It might get better over a year or so.
I cannot say in his particular case but not breathing during sleep can be very serious and very correctable. A sleep study will diagnose the problem.
