What Causes Enlarged Lymph Nodes In A Child?

8yr old boy with enlarged hard submandiular gland and enlarged lymph nodes in area ,no strep, no fever, ultrasound tech recamended a biopsy. Waiting to see a surgeon. His regular doctor didn t say anything about it just refered to a surgeon. What is going on? Can u help. Worried family!

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that enlarged submandibular salivary gland along with swollen lymph nodes can be due to infection in submandibular gland while if the lymph nodes are only swollen and not gland, then it can be due to chronic infections causing Reactionary Lymphadenitis while can also be due to Lymphoma formation..

Yes, getting an MRI scan along with biopsy/FNAC has to be done for confirmation of the cause and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case if there is infection, then a course of antibiotics along with anti -inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen along with alternate warm and cool compresses can help..
