What Causes Episodes Of Severe Pain In Armpit, Shoulder Blade And Lower Back?

My 76 year old father has had 2 bouts of severe pain today.. The first one was from his elbow up to his armpit and radiated around his shoulder blade to his scapula.. Second one was three hours later, and this episode was more severe and was on the left lower part of his back.. Just wondering what that could be

Hi.

The 2 can seem unrelated, and I wish you would have also mentioned which arm he experienced the pain in. If it was the left arm then the issue could either be a cardiac one or one to do with the digestive system. Either way, it would be best to get him evaluated by an EKG and a physical examination.

The pain around the lower left back could either be related to the kidneys (depending on exact location), nerve compression, or weakness.
