Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
Diabetes mellitus is a progressive disorder that, among other effects on the human organism, also affects arteries of different calibres. Therefore, it does not spare coronary arteries. I would further inform you that
aspirin does not have any effect on relieving the
shortness of breath. Also, you should know that diabetes, not only affects arteries, it also causes progressive
nerve damage, so even different kind of pain generated by diferrent organ systems can go by without being felt. At this point I would recommend you to do a cardiac check-up: EKG, to evaluate the heart electrical system and whether any pathological process is on the way; an
echocardiogram to assess the heart muscle motility and fuctioni also to evaluate other functional parameters of the heart; and a cardiac
stress test, to evaluate if there is a possibility of a blockage or narrowing within a coronary
artery. If the latter comes back positive, a coronary angiogram is recommended. After you have the test results back, you can further discuss the matter with your cardiologist. Also, you are welcome to contact me again.
I hope I was helpful. Good luck.
Wish you a good health,
Dr. Meriton
