What Causes Erectile Dysfunction In A Patient With Brain Cancer?

I am 18 and I m a brain cancer survivor. When I was 14 I noticed that I did not have erections. My chemotherapy treatment ended when I was 13. I told my oncologist during a recent visit that I didn t have erections and he had ordered bloodwork. He said everything was fine including my testosterone levels. What could be causing this ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Chemotherapy induced erectile dysfunction is usually temporary and resolve within 1-2 weeks after stop taking the chemotherapy. Some chemotherapy medications like Cisplatin, Vincristine etc may affect the nerves which maintain erection leading to erectile dysfunction. Again, some chemotherapy medications may not cause erectile dysfunction directly, but they may alter the sexual urge and desire for sexual encounters may change over the course of treatment. Some medications like Sildenafil, Tadalafil or Verdenafil are available to treat erectile dysfunction after the chemotherapy treatment. These medications may help to get and control a firm erection in most patients with erectile dysfunction. But you should consult your doctor first before starting any medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
