Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife is experiencing severe esophageal pain after a Chinese meal a few hours ago. She was given pantoprazole as a temporary measure. The pain just came back and she took 3 teaspoons of Malox 45 minutes ago and it did quiet the pain for that time. It is returning. What should she take? I am at YYYY@YYYY .
Your wife might need to take pantoprazole for longer than just a day or so, she may benefit if she takes it for a week or two so it gives enough time for the esophagus to heal from the burning effect of the acid coming from the stomach.
Meanwhile she should avoid spicy and fatty food and try to eat and drink frequent small amount of food and fluids to avoid the acid reflux in her throat.
I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
