hi!!! I had a cataract operation recently Doctor gave me some antibiotics. After having antibiotics for 2-3 days i started experiencing some trouble in my food pipe.i was not able to swallow my food and the problem became acute....and I started experiencing acidity.. i approached the doctor again and he advised me not to take the antibiotics & prescribed me for ultrasound .All the reports in ultrasound are alright but it showed the swelling in the foodpipe?????Plz tell me wat to do now??? Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. The most probable causes of pain while swallowing and acidity are as follows: Gastritis and GERD with resultant esophagitis. Antibiotics are very rarely known cause such a problem, the commonest causes are anti-inflammatory medications. There can be associated stress and anxiety adding on to the problems. There is less role of ultrasound in such a case. The best option is to go for an upper GI Endoscopy. Take a PPI like Pantoprazole. Antacids every three hours. Domperidone if there is nausea, vomiting and symptoms like GERD that is gastro-esophageal reflux syndrome. The report of Upper GI Endoscopy and response to the medication will decide the further management. Take soft and bland diet.
