What Causes Excess Earwax Leading To Pain And Clogging?
My left ear stays clogged up and hurts all the time, I keep getting a soft lump behind my ear. I have been dealing with this for years constantly. I have removed wax with an over the counter ear wax remover with syringe and have gotten huge balls of wax out and also stuff that looks like wet paper.. I do not stick cotton swabs in my ear. Why do I have this problem? I have been to the doctor and they keep giving me antibiotics but it comes back less than two weeks later. Why :(
Some people are more likely than others to have earwax problems. People who tend to collect more earwax in their ears include individuals whose ear canals are narrow or not fully formed, hairy ear canal. Benign bony growths, in the outer part of the ear canal and people with recurring ear infections and impacted earwax are the other causes.
Regular cleaning and avoiding the build up of of ear wax by ear drops and ear irrigation by your doctor should be done. Avoid using ear swabs or trying manual removal which can push the wax further inside.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
