Dr. Hanif warmly welcomes you!
Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic HCM. I have carefully worked through your case, and can well realize your health worries. Being your physician, I want to assure, I will take care all of your medical concerns.
Certain foods, medications and other metabolic stresses cause hemolysis (breakdown of red blood cells) in
G6PD deficiency patients who have one enzyme deficiency in them genetically. This hemolysis definitely leads to shortage and decreased counts of red blood cells and a low
hemoglobin (
Hemolytic anemia).
Most patients with G6PD Deficiency doesn't need any treatment and the anemia is usually self-limiting. It may take a time of one to two weeks to have the anemia relieved.
What happened to you actually:-
Due to the breakdown of the Red blood cells due to an allergen (the food-peas) there was an accumulation of the metabolic wastes in body, joint spaces etc. This led to the
joint pains in backache. You were sweating profusely sue to the inflammatory metabolic wastes (cytokines and
interleukin) that affect the central brain areas and lead to perspiration, higher heart rate and fast breathing. But this is all temporary if not a severe reaction was there.
Usually you don't need medical care for such an episode.
Blood transfusion is needed in severe cases. Avoid the allergenic foods that your physician must have made a list for. I will appreciate if you keep a regular follow up with a
hematologist to see everything is OK.
Keep yourself hydrated and take a proper diet rich in nutrients. Hope I answered all of your questions. Please don't forget to add your precious positive feedback to help me able to assist you better in future too. Have a wonderful time ahead. Keep in touch for a follow-up too to let me know if you have any doubts & need further assistance. I am available 24/7 for your help. Have a blessed time ahead.
Regards!
